This qualification reflects the role of skilled senior pharmacy assistants who use sound knowledge of a broad range of pharmacy products and health care support services. Some senior pharmacy assistants may take a lead role in coordinating front of pharmacy business activities.

Entry Requirements

There are no academic entry requirements for these qualifications. Students are required to provide their Unique Student Identifier (USI) which we can assist with, photo identification and meet the language, literacy and numeracy requirements.

Training delivery
This course can be conducted online, blended, work based or in the classroom. Training is delivered through our Registered Training Organisation: Gateway Training Academy RTO ID 32305.

Course Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the course, you will receive a:

  • Nationally recognised Certificate & Transcript or
  • Statement of Attainment (if found competent in at least 1 Unit of Competency)

To successfully complete this qualification, you require 14 units of competence. These 14 units are comprised of 3 core unit which is compulsory and 11 elective units. The units of competence shown below have been selected by Gateway Training Academy based on the course purpose. They are shown in the recommended study order.

Occupation Description
Pharmacy Assistant Pharmacy Assistants sell retail goods to customers in pharmacies. Goods can range from creams, lotions and grooming tools to, cosmetics and perfumes. Pharmacy Assistants help customers to select the right products to meet their needs and assist with the day to day operation of a pharmacy. They usually have a good knowledge of pharmacy products, health and beauty products.
Pharmacy Sales Assistant Pharmacy sales assistants sell pharmaceutical goods, toiletries and related goods in pharmacies and assist customers with any inquiries.
Dispensary Technician A Dispensary Technician helps to prepare medications at a pharmacy. You’ll be supervised by a qualified pharmacist as you process prescriptions for patients. Dispensary Technicians ensure label information is accurate and you might discuss concerns or precautions with customers.
Dispensary Assistant Dispensary Assistants assist Pharmacists with preparing medications for customers, advising customers on safe and effective use of medicines, and supporting the running of the pharmacy. Dispensary Assistants work under the direct supervision of a Pharmacist to ensure medicines are dispensed legally and safely.
Dispensary Manager This pharmacist position is to manage operations of the dispensary area within the pharmacy department. It includes overseeing day to day processes and rostering requirements to ensure a efficient and effective dispensary service.
